He watched the video again after his guest had left…and again…and again, a smirk spreading across his face. It only took a few seconds to get up and out of his chair.The tape was hastily shoved into a pocket as he pulled on his jacket. Several stacks of paper had to be relocated, but eventually he found the paper he was looking for.

He mumbled something unintelligable when asked where he was going. It didn’t occur to him just how bad an idea his little trip had been until he was pulling up in front of the rather large house.’What are you planning on doing without some kind of warrant? Stupid…’he rolled his eyes at this thought.

He half expected the address from the records to be fake. Despite this, he hid his surprise fairly well when the door swung open.”Nice to know you’re so excited to see me” He commented dryly.”I guess you have the advantage on me since you’re exactly the brunette I was looking for.”!

Antonio snorted at the mans reaction. Apparently that protective streak ran both ways.”I never said it was a bad thing you know”he commented,shrugging.”Don’t get your panties in a bunch”

His eyes narrowed suspiciously at the comment.”Are you in trouble often enough that your lawyer has to be able to get to you quickly Mr.Vargas?”The question had popped out of his mouth before he could stop it.He laughed it off. “Nevermind-don’t answer that.”He was still somewhat convinced that he knew more about what had happened then he was saying,but questioning him further wasn’t worth the trouble he’d get in for doing so without his lawyer around.

“You’re not going to stab anyone or something if I leave you to your self right?”Not that he really expected an answer to this question.”I could just put you in the cage,but it’s already full and handcuffing you to something seems like more trouble than it’s worth”He made a shooing motion”Go, if someone asks you’re a guest or a visitor or something.”

Lovino gave a knowing smile. It was clear that the other had his suspicions about what had happened, but there was no way he would find anything to pin him. The case would remain open and disappear into the the mass of other files soon enough. “You shouldn’t be afraid to ask me anything officer. I’m only here to help.” His eyes shone brightly with his amusement. Help him he would, help him on his way to a dead end.  “Giorgio just knows i don’t like to be kept waiting.”

He nodded once when he was dismissed, for once not minding it. Turning away, he raised a hand in a vague farewell. “I’m not the type for it I’m afraid.” Knives were never as fun and picking the lock to handcuffs would be child’s play. “You have a nice day now.” He strolled out of the office, knowing there was almost no chance of him seeing the other again. It was a shame they played for opposite teams, he seemed like he would have been someone fun to play head games with. In his position, it would have been too risky though. If he made a mistake, it was game over. Something in him wanted to jump at the chance of such high stakes, but for now, he’d wait.

It wasn’t long after that, that his lawyer arrived, frantically trying to get Lovino to tell him every thing he had told the police. He brushed him off as they got into the car. He’d deal with it later, when it wasn’t such an ungodly hour and he had rested a bit. Somehow he doubted he’d be sleeping tonight. Maybe Feli had an idea of how to distract him…

“I’m sure you are Mr.Vargas, we appreciate it so very much”Hopefully that didn’t sound as sarcastic to the other as it had to him.“And here you’d gotten my hopes up that something interesting would happen-such a pity” he sighed dramatically. He waved his hand in the others direction as he walked off. “Until next time Mr.Vargas” and he certainly doubted that it would be the last time he saw the man.

Unfortunately, the case saw fit to go cold for a few weeks after that. Even after their one apparent witness sobered up she couldn’t remember anything completely useful. No other information came in and the murder was filed away with an ever growing pile of unsolved things. Antonio had nearly forgotten about it, swamped under other work, when the woman came in. He was on his normal shift again for the first time in almost a month. He was taking the early morning absence of activity and sunshine as an opportunity to get several things done-mainly cat-napping. It took him a moment to figure out what was happening when the strange female had appeared in front of his desk with the tape, babbling about how she’s found it and his boss had sent her to him.

She’d apparently gone on a trip to England, visiting a sick sister or some other kind of thing. The camera had been set up to see who was coming and going (suspecting a cheating husband). While she hadn’t caught any other ladies coming or going she had managed to film a homicide.The picture was a bit grainy and hard to make out, but the officer was almost certain that he recognized the person in it. Ah, well this certainly was interesting…
